Elvis Price, who remains at large, was found guilty in his absence at Cardiff Crown Court of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and three counts of assault.

The court heard how Price fractured his victim’s ankle with a pool cue and later beat her with her own crutches. He prevented her from seeking medical attention for weeks and forced her to lie about her injuries when she finally received treatment.

In a powerful statement to the court, the victim said: “The relief of the court case going ahead didn’t prepare me for the shock of seeing photographs of my injuries and how awful they were, I cried. The beatings were so regular I became desensitised. Seeing those injuries made me physically sick. I have lost the person I was and I will never be that person again. I live in daily paranoia not knowing where he is and fear for the future.”

Recorder Dyfed Thomas described the attacks as “brutal, cowardly assaults” before passing sentence. The prison term will commence once Price is apprehended by police.
