A 34-year-old man has been jailed for five months for covertly recording a woman performing a sex act on him.
David Novac admitted voyeurism. He appeared at Swansea Crown Court by videolink from prison to be sentenced. He told police he made the recording because he intended to show it to his partner in Romania.
Sentencing
Judge Catherine Richards gave Novac a one-sixth reduction for his guilty plea, which brought the term to five months. She also activated two months of a suspended sentence he was already serving and ordered it to run concurrently.
He must sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years.
Meeting online
Andrew Davies, prosecuting, said Novac struck up a conversation with the woman on Facebook Dating on the morning of 3 May this year. On the app he went by the name “Abdul”.
They met that afternoon and had sex.
Discovery of the video
The woman later went to police and alleged she had been raped. Novac was arrested and officers seized his phone. On it they found a video of her performing oral sex on him.
Officers told her about the footage, and she became upset. She said she had not known she was being filmed.
What Novac told police
When interviewed, Novac said the sex had been consensual. He told officers he filmed the woman so he could show the footage to his partner in Romania, to “make her jealous” and “let her know I am not lacking on anything”.
He said he never showed his partner the video.
Previous convictions
Novac, of Neath Road, Hafod, Swansea, also uses the first names Teodor and Ahmed. He was convicted of driving with excess alcohol in 2020. In 2025 he was convicted of possessing a bladed article and received a four-month suspended sentence.
Defence
Matt Murphy, representing Novac, said his client wanted to apologise to his family, to the complainant and to the court. He added that Novac hopes to return to his family in Romania as soon as possible.
