A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to four years and 10 weeks detention after forcing a schoolgirl to her knees and orally raping her on a footpath in the Abertillery area. ⚖️
Cardiff Crown Court heard how Rhys Warren attacked the girl following a chance meeting, biting her lip and telling her he wanted to “f***” her. When she tried to escape, Warren kicked her legs from under her and forced his penis into her mouth whilst holding her head.
Warren, of Lancaster Street, Six Bells, Abertillery, later claimed he could not remember the incident due to alcohol amnesia. He pleaded guilty to rape in November 2024.
The victim told the court in a statement that she had been struggling to sleep, suffering nightmares, and was now on medication. She said her schoolwork had suffered and she was scared to go out, struggling in crowds because she could not trust people.
Defence barrister Jeffrey Jones said a reference from Warren’s nan showed his behaviour was “so much out of character” and that he was ashamed. Jones added: “Alcohol robbed him of any sense of responsibility.”
Judge Wayne Beard said it was clear Warren had “no concern” for the girl, stating: “This is a terrible offence which will remain life-long with the complainant.”
Warren, who has no previous convictions, will serve up to half his sentence in custody before being released on licence. The sentence included a 20% discount for his guilty plea.
