A Caernarfon man who became “obsessed” with a 60-year-old woman has been jailed for 15 months after breaching a restraining order multiple times.

Michael Jones, 32, of Glan Cadnant, Caernarfon, met the woman three times in July this year despite being banned from contacting her. He had previously been given a 16-month suspended sentence in June for wounding the woman causing grievous bodily harm without intent.

Caernarfon Crown Court heard on Wednesday that Jones contacted the woman via Facebook after she left him a bottle of water on a cycle path. They subsequently met in a park at night, where Jones told the woman he had a “hatred towards women” and “an odd fascination with (this woman’s) breasts.”

Prosecutor Amy Edwards told the court that during a second meeting on a cycle track, “she allowed him to breast feed for 10 minutes”. Jones told her he spoke to women of her age “as a way of getting back at his mother”.

On 14th July, Jones rang the woman asking her to come to his flat because he was starving, but initially would not let her leave when she arrived. The woman later left the area to stay with a friend.

In a victim statement, the woman said: “I know he’s obsessed with me. I know from experience that the obsession is dangerous.”

Defence barrister Dafydd Roberts said Jones has “attachment problems” and told the court: “He knows he should not have been having contact with her but he could not stop himself.”

Her Honour Judge Nicola Jones noted the woman was “very complicit” in what was going on but jailed Jones for three months for the breaches and activated 12 months from his suspended sentence, making a total of 15 months’ imprisonment.

The restraining order not to contact his victim was extended for three years to end on 5th June 2030.
