A 30-year-old man who threatened to shoot a family member and then hid inside his ex-partner’s property has been sentenced to 14 weeks in prison.

Philip Blakemore, of Eifion Terrace, Y Ffor, appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on 12 June having previously admitted sending grossly offensive communication and breaching a Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO).

The standoff

After the threats were reported to police, officers searched for Blakemore and discovered he was at his ex-partner’s address – a property he was banned from attending under a DAPO designed to protect her from harm.

Authorised firearms officers contained the property, but Blakemore refused to cooperate throughout a six-hour confrontation, throwing glass bottles towards officers and holding a knife.

Officers entered the address on 17 May and detained him. They also found he had caused damage inside the home.

The threats

The sequence of events began on 16 May when Blakemore phoned a man and threatened to shoot his brother after falsely accusing one of the siblings of burgling his grandparent’s home.

He followed this by sending a photograph of a gun to the man’s sister, leaving all three siblings fearing for their lives.

Sentencing

The court imposed a 12-week custodial sentence for breaching the DAPO and a further two-week term for the threats, totalling 14 weeks’ imprisonment.

District Inspector Iwan Jones said: “Blakemore’s reckless and selfish actions show his disrespect towards the justice system by breaching the DAPO imposed on him to protect a vulnerable person from harm.

“His refusal to co-operate with officers then prevented emergency services from attending other jobs to assist people in need of assistance.

“We will not tolerate this behaviour and will continue to pursue those who seek to cause a nuisance in our communities.”
