Two families have spoken of their devastation after a teenager and a young man died following a collision in Newport.
Ta-Shay Canoville, 16, and Jaydon Bowyer, 19, both lost their lives in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, after a collision on Aberthaw Road. Gwent Police have now released tributes from their loved ones.
Ta-Shay Canoville, aged 16
Ta-Shay’s family described him as someone whose smile could light up any room, saying the pain of losing him was beyond words.
“We remember and honour our beloved, Ta-Shay Canoville (Marvin), whose life touched so many hearts in ways words can never express.
“From the moment he came into this world he brought love, laughter, and light into all our lives.
“His smile could brighten even the darkest day, and his presence made life better for everyone around him.
“Though his life was far too short, the impact he made will last forever.
“There are no words for the pain of losing him, and there will always be a space in our hearts that can never be filled. But alongside the sorrow is immense gratitude – gratitude for the privilege of being part of his life and for every memory we shared.
“To know him was to love him. The outpouring of love shown by the whole community is testament to this, and as a family we are extremely thankful for all the love and sympathy shown to us, we request our privacy is respected at this sad time.
“We will carry him with us in the stories we tell, in the laughter we share, in the music we hear and in the quiet moments when we miss him most.
“Rest peacefully, Ta-Shay.
“You were deeply loved, and you always will be.
“Forever our son, brother & boy. Forever in our hearts.”
Jaydon Bowyer, aged 19
Jaydon’s family remembered him as a polite, charming young man with an infectious smile who had his whole life ahead of him.
“Jaydon was a deeply loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was also a truly adored member of the community – a young man no one ever had a bad word to say about. He touched so many lives simply by being himself.
“Bailey, his younger brother, was his world. Jaydon was Bailey’s role model – more than just a brother. He was like a second dad, always making sure he was looked after. They were best friends, sharing a bond that was unbreakable and full of love.
“Jaydon was polite, respectful, and full of cheeky charm. Jaydon had a way of lighting up every room he walked into, with his handsome face and that unforgettable mischievous smile. He brought warmth, laughter, and energy wherever he went.
“He had his whole life ahead of him, with dreams and plans that meant so much – especially the ones we shared about building our own business together. Those dreams made the future feel exciting and losing him feels unimaginably unfair.
“Jaydon had a real passion for bikes. It wasn’t just a hobby – it was something he truly loved. He was fearless and talented, known for being the best at doing his wheelies, always pushing himself and enjoying every moment.
“He also loved spending time with his friends, especially going away on lads’ holidays, making memories filled with laughter and adventure.
“Growing up, Jaydon was an incredible football player and proudly played for Spencer’s Boys. He was so fast that no one could catch him – like a little whippet on the pitch. His determination and natural ability made him stand out from a young age.
“He loved building things, especially with bikes or anything he and his friend Lucas could get their hands on. Those moments of creativity, teamwork, and friendship meant the world to him.
“Jaydon will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten. His spirit, his smile, and the joy he brought into our lives will stay with us always.”
