A woman was left with severe facial injuries after her husband viciously attacked her in their Bridgend home, throwing her to the floor and stomping on her head.

Allan Harries, 43, assaulted his wife on March 9 last year following a breakfast argument where he accused her of drinking too much the previous night.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how Harries put his wife in a headlock before throwing her to the kitchen floor and stomping on her face, causing her to lose consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, the victim found herself bleeding and unable to get up.

After the attack, Harries said: “Oh f***, what have I done? Are you ok?”

The victim, who works at a primary school, was unable to seek immediate medical attention as she had no access to a phone and feared for her safety. She eventually received treatment 9-10 days later at Princess of Wales Hospital, requiring surgery for a hardened blood lump on her head.

Despite initially claiming he was the victim of an attack, Harries, now of the Days Inn Hotel, Bridgend, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous harm. The court heard he had served in the Navy with tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone.

He was sentenced to 27 months’ imprisonment. ⚖️
