A 21-year-old man who broke into his ex-girlfriend’s family home and destroyed her belongings has been jailed for 18 months.
Mason Rudy smashed a Christmas television gift and trashed his former partner’s make-up during what Cardiff Crown Court heard was a “spiteful” burglary at the Caerphilly property on January 16 last year. 📱💔
The court heard Rudy had previous domestic violence convictions against the same woman for controlling behaviour and assault from 2023, when he told her she wasn’t allowed to drink during a Turkey holiday and threatened to kill her if she left him.
In her victim impact statement, the woman said: “I’ve had to move out as my mother doesn’t want me in the house. She said it was my fault. She said I can’t live there any more in case Rudy returns.”
She added: “I’m still scared of him and he knows I’m scared of him. When I first met him, he was lovely and would buy me gifts. He was angry because I broke up with him. Rudy is evil and a horrible person – I just want him to stay away from me.”
The defendant, of Nantcarn Road, Cwmcarn, Caerphilly, also has previous convictions against another ex-girlfriend and is currently serving a 35-month sentence in a young offender institution for assaulting her and threatening to kill her family.
Hilary Roberts, defending, described Rudy as “a very young and immature man” and asked the court to consider the “unfathomable delay” in bringing the case to court.
Judge Lucy Crowther told Rudy: “What you did what extremely spiteful as well as hurtful. It was done out of anger and fury.”
In addition to the 18-month prison sentence, Rudy was made subject to a five-year restraining order and must pay a victim surcharge upon release. He is not due to be released from his current sentence until February 2026.
