A Cwmbran thug who threatened a bailiff with a crowbar and later harassed his 84-year-old former landlord has been jailed for 30 months.
Anthony Last, 59, of Henllys Way, St Dials, told the debt collector to “f*** off” before following him into the street wielding a crowbar on 13th December 2023. The bailiff had been attempting to collect payment for a parking fine owed by Last’s father.
Cardiff Crown Court heard Last pleaded guilty to threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place and assault by beating.
Judge Daniel Williams described the incident, saying: “You told him to f*** off and shut the door. He went back to his van and you got a crowbar. You were shouting and screaming at him – it was an ugly incident.”
While on bail, Last went on to breach a restraining order from 2010 by bombarding his seriously ill ex-landlord with “utterly vile” telephone calls and voice notes in January and February this year. He threatened to “f*** him up” and made a “sinister” call that led his victim to believe he was outside his house.
Judge Williams told Last: “He is in serious ill health. He hadn’t heard from you for years. You bombarded him with a barrage of telephone calls and voice notes of utterly vile insults.”
Last was convicted of seven counts of breaching a restraining order following a jury trial. He has previous convictions for 61 offences, including violence, weapons and burglary matters.
Sentencing him, Judge Williams said: “You represent a high risk of serious harm to the public. These were persistent breaches of a restraining order.”
Last will serve half of his 30-month sentence in prison before being released on licence.
