Cwmbran man jailed 23 years for child sex abuse

Adrian Price, 51, of The Tower, Southville, Cwmbran has been jailed for 23 years after being found guilty of 11 historical sex offences against two young girls.

The “dangerous offender” was convicted by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court of crimes including child rape, assault of a girl under 13 by penetration, sexual assault and causing/inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He also made one victim watch pornography.

Victim impact statements revealed the devastating impact of his abuse.

The first complainant said: “I used to try not to think or talk about it. I have no trust in men and I always feel terrified when someone is walking behind me. I struggle to sleep and I often lie awake in bed thinking about things. I feel like a black cloud has been over me. I have so much anger inside me.”

The second victim said: “I find it very difficult to trust men. I’m very insecure and I find it difficult that anyone would like me. I’m tired all of the time because I can’t manage to sleep. When I do sleep, I have nightmares. I was really anxious to see him during the trial. It was hard giving evidence about something so horrible. Being challenged felt so unfair because I have always been honest.”

Despite the jury’s verdict, Price told a probation officer he “does not accept the verdicts”.

Judge Eugene Egan told Price: “You are a dangerous offender. The abuse went on and on and on. Your victims told the jury what you had done. They were subjected to grotesque sexual abuse at your hands.”

Price, who has no relevant previous convictions and suffers from anxiety, depression and learning difficulties, was sentenced to 18 years in prison plus an extended licence period of five years.

He must register as a sex offender for life and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and restraining orders, both for indefinite periods.
