A kitchen porter at a Cardiff takeaway has been jailed after fire officers discovered his secret drug stash worth over £40,000 during a blaze at the premises. 🔥💊
On Tuesday, March 25 (2024), fire officers responding to an electrical fault at the New India Kitchen in Caerphilly Road, Cardiff, found more than they bargained for when Omar Khan refused to leave the building.
While making the premises safe, fire officers stumbled across what they suspected to be illegal drugs – a white powder in small grip seal bags left on a cabinet.
It was soon revealed that Khan, 38, had been secretly using storage space above the takeaway to store cannabis, cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and MDMA.
Just weeks before, Khan had asked the takeaway owner if he could use the premises to store some belongings as he was “moving home” – a request the business owner granted, completely unaware of Khan’s true intentions.
Omar Khan, of Whitchurch Road, Gabalfa, was arrested and charged with multiple supply and concerned in supply offences. Following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court on March 25, he was sentenced to 48 months in prison.
