A thug who beat up a man with his brother after a Christmas drinking session has been jailed for nearly a year. ⚖️

Ieuan Beaton, 27, was locked up for 49 weeks after his alcohol-fuelled assault on Jason Richards in Tredegar on 20th December 2023.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how victim Jason Richards had been drinking with Ieuan’s brother Danny Beaton, 28, at Wetherspoons before Danny called his sibling, who “disliked” Mr Richards.

Both brothers then attacked Mr Richards opposite Ashvale Stores, repeatedly punching him in the face and head. He suffered a broken nose, was knocked unconscious, and left on the floor covered in blood and bruises.

Ieuan Beaton failed to appear at his original sentencing hearing and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested at his Tredegar home this week.

Judge Eugene Egan told Ieuan: “You beat up someone who was no match for you and your brother. There are extremely unpleasant photographs of the injuries you caused to your victim which I have seen.”

Unemployed father-of-three Ieuan Beaton, of Lakeside, Tafarnaubach, has 13 previous convictions for 33 offences. He was jailed for 20 months in 2020 for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and police officers.

His solicitor Jeffrey Jones told the court: “He says he is sorry for what he has done. His pre-sentence report speaks about how he needs focussed work on his thinking and behaviour. The defendant is drug free.”

Danny Beaton, of Islwyn Terrace, Tredegar, received a 39-week sentence suspended for 21 months. He must complete a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a 120-day alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement, meaning he cannot legally drink until the start of 2026. He must also pay Mr Richards £500 in compensation.

Both brothers admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
