⚖️ A 30-year-old man from Anglesey has been jailed for 32 months after admitting sexual offences against a 13-year-old girl.

Michael Hanmer, of Rhyd Menai, Menai Bridge, sent sexual messages to the teenager and asked her to photograph herself in her bra. He also sent intimate photographs and a video of himself to the victim.

The girl reported the contact to a teacher at her school, who alerted her mother. Police were later informed.

Caernarfon Crown Court heard that Hanmer contacted the girl on Snapchat, asking her to go on days out. He told her they could then go to his place and have “cuddles and things and have a naughty time”.

Prosecutor Simon Rogers told the court the girl thought this was “odd” and felt “uncomfortable” when Hanmer asked what she thought being naughty meant.

Hanmer asked for an intimate video of herself, which she didn’t send. He also requested “two or three pictures of her bra so he could see what colour it is and maybe a bit of b***”.

He then sent an intimate image and video of himself. Mr Rogers said the girl thought this was “disgusting and weird”.

When arrested, Hanmer denied sending the messages and claimed his phone had been hacked. However, police found he had made online searches about a girl in a bra and whether you could go to jail for sending inappropriate pictures.

In a victim statement, the girl said she is having counselling and is worried about what Hanmer would say and do if they ever met again.

Defending barrister Dafydd Roberts said a psychologist found the defendant has a “mild intellectual learning disability” and “possible traits of neurodiversity consistent with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD”. He suggested any prison sentence could be suspended in this “unusual” case so probation could work with the “vulnerable” defendant.

However, Her Honour Judge Nicola Jones jailed Hanmer immediately for 32 months for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He received eight months imprisonment concurrently for causing a child to watch a sex act and six months concurrently for sexual communication with a child.

The judge also imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order, which includes conditions prohibiting Hanmer from contacting or approaching his victim.
