A man has been jailed for two years after a series of violent assaults, including an attack that left a police sergeant unconscious and requiring hospital treatment.
Gary Wyn Morgan, 33, from Love Lane, Bangor, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to assaulting three emergency workers and another assault charge.
The court heard that Morgan smashed a plate over a man’s head during an argument on August 18th. When officers attempted to arrest him four days later near Deiniol Road, he violently resisted, punching one officer and spitting in another’s face.
The situation escalated further in custody when Morgan punched a sergeant in the jaw with such force that the officer was knocked unconscious and needed stitches.
Chief Inspector Stephen Pawson said: “Morgan’s violent behaviour against police officers was simply disgraceful. Violence has no place in Gwynedd, and we are all aware that one punch can have devastating and even fatal consequences.”
North Wales Police Federation General Secretary and Treasurer, Lewis Davies, said: “Whilst North Wales Police Federation welcome a custodial sentence handed down to Gary Wyn Morgan, we remain vocal around the need to improve the length of sentences for attacks on officers.
“Morgan has shown a blatant disregard towards our officers who work hard to keep the public safe, the danger of the consequences of so called “one-punch” violence cannot be overstated and whilst our officers have a high level of skills and training we are just as vulnerable to the potentially tragic consequences of such acts of violence.
“We continue to support our colleagues and I also want to give thanks to the investigators who professionally seek justice for their colleagues.”
