A 29-year-old man from Abercynon has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl in Caerphilly.

Dean Williams received four years and eight months for sexual activity with a child, and 22 months for making an indecent image of a child, with the sentences to run concurrently. The assault occurred in a park in August 2022 after Williams added the 13-year-old victim on Snapchat.

T/Detective Sergeant Michael Coles praised the victim’s courage: “I would like to thank the victim in this case for coming forward and reporting to the police. They have shown tremendous bravery and courage throughout the investigation and the court process.

“By coming forward, they’ve helped put a callous and dangerous man behind bars. Dean Williams targeted a young, and therefore vulnerable, girl for his own sexual gratification and we welcome the sentence that has been imposed on him.

“I also hope this outcome shows other victims of rape and sexual offences that they will be listened to, believed and respected.” ⚖️

Support services are available through Gwent Police and partner agencies for victims and survivors of sexual assault. Williams will remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
