A Wrexham man has been jailed for four and a half years after subjecting his former partner to a year-long campaign of abuse and threatening his mother and stepfather with a knife.

Christopher Campbell, 32, of Rhosddu Road, admitted controlling and coercive behaviour, threatening his mother and stepfather with a knife, and wounding. He was sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Wednesday.

North Wales Police said Campbell verbally and physically abused his former partner in a bid to gain control. He isolated her from friends and family, became abusive if she didn’t answer the phone straight away, threatened to kill her and physically attacked her.

On one occasion, he took a knife and pointed it at the victim’s throat after attacking her at home.

In a separate incident in February this year, Campbell held a knife up to his mother’s throat and cut his stepfather’s wrist with the same weapon. He was arrested and remanded into custody.

Campbell was also handed two ten-year restraining orders to protect his mother and stepfather.

District Inspector Rhodri Ifans said: “All three victims were subjected to Campbell’s abusive, violent and intimidating behaviour, and were incredibly brave in speaking out. We continue to act on any report of domestic violence and of controlling and coercive behaviour and we will not stop in our efforts to bring perpetrators of abuse to justice. I hope that following Campbell’s sentencing, the victims can begin to move on from this upsetting and terrifying experience.”
