Undy man jailed for sexual activity with child

A man from Undy and a woman from Newport have been sentenced after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

Guy Simmonds, 37, and a 26-year-old woman were sentenced today (Friday 24 October) at Cardiff Crown Court after being found guilty by a jury in August this year.

The court heard how the pair, despite being aware of the victim’s age, engaged in a “so-called threesome” at the home address of the 26-year-old woman in January 2024. The jury were also read text messages between the two defendants which showed them agreeing to “a pact of silence”.

Both Simmonds, from Undy, and the 26-year-old woman, from Newport, were found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child. Simmonds was found not guilty of five counts of the same charge.

DC John-Paul Velasquez-Cripps, the officer in charge, said:

“Thanks to the bravery of the victim in coming forward and her strength throughout the investigation and trial, someone who exploited a child for their own benefit is behind bars.

“The calculating actions of the defendants demonstrated that they were aware that the victim was underage and what they were doing was wrong. From Simmonds staggering his arrival at the property to avoid raising suspicion to him discarding his phone and their pact of silence.

“They have shown no regard for the emotional impact their actions have had on the victim; however, I hope that today’s sentence provides the victim in this case some sense of justice.”

Guy Simmonds received an extended sentence of eight years and three months. The 26-year-old woman received a suspended sentence.
