🚨 A Tredegar man has been sentenced to three years in prison after a violent assault on his wife that included strangulation and threats with a knife.

Richard Lewis, 48, from The Granary, appeared at Newport Crown Court via video link on January 27, where the court heard he had told his wife “If I can’t have you, nobody will” during the attack at their Tredegar home last October.

The assault included strangulation lasting over a minute, followed by threats with a knife and the destruction of the victim’s phone.

Initially appearing relaxed during the court proceedings, Lewis later broke down in tears as his case was heard.

Recorder Andrew Hammond handed down a three-year sentence, with half to be served in prison. A restraining order was also imposed, preventing Lewis from contacting his estranged wife.
