A 14-year-old girl has been convicted of attempting to murder two teachers and a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict at Swansea Crown Court following a week-long trial. She had previously admitted to wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article on school premises.

The court heard that on 24 April 2023, the girl brought her father’s fishing multi-tool to school, resulting in serious injuries to teachers Mrs Fiona Elias and Mrs Liz Hopkin, as well as a pupil. Mrs Hopkin sustained four stab wounds and required airlift transportation to Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales. 🚁

During police interviews, the defendant made several concerning statements, including: “I’m pretty sure this is going to be on the news, so more eyes will be looking at me, that’s one way to be a celebrity.”

The teenager, who claimed she had experienced bullying “four, three times a week”, will be sentenced on 28 April.
