A 54-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after he was captured on camera smashing his way into a vehicle in Swansea – and then returned to try his luck again just an hour later.
The break-in
Darren Williams, from Uplands, targeted a vehicle parked on a lane just off Walter Road on March 23. CCTV footage showed him smashing the front passenger window before stealing items from inside.
Despite already having taken property from the car, Williams brazenly went back to the scene roughly an hour later in an attempt to access the vehicle a second time.
Swift arrest
Officers were able to quickly identify and locate Williams after he matched the description of the man seen on the footage. When he was arrested, he was found to be in possession of items that had been taken from the car.
Sentencing
Williams pleaded guilty to theft from a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison.
PC Luke Morgan said: “Thieves like Darren Williams make the good, law-abiding people of Swansea fearful that their vehicle could be targeted at any time.
“We have a zero-tolerance approach to thefts from motor vehicles, and it was pleasing to see this brazen offender brought to justice so quickly.”
