The family of an 18-year-old who died in a fatal collision as she travelled to the Royal Welsh Show have described her as a “treasured daughter” who “lit up any room she entered” 💔

Keen horsewoman Sally Allen, of Cresswell Quay, Kilgetty, died on Wednesday morning (July 23) after a collision on the A40 at Broadoak between Carmarthen and Llandeilo.

Her family said she was “endlessly caring, unintentionally hilarious and the most amazing supportive and joyful person” who “was very popular with everyone who knew her”.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision involving a red Renault Clio and Blue Audi Q5 at around 8am to come forward.

A tribute from Sally’s family said: “Sally was a much-loved sister to William and Issie, and a treasured daughter of Richard and Kate. She was a beloved granddaughter to Nanna, Bamps, Nanny and Pops and was loved by all her aunties, uncles and cousins. She had a large number of friends and was very popular with everyone who knew her. In only 18 years of her life, she touched the hearts of so many people within her community, her school, her work and social life. She was a girl who found happiness in attending Young Farmers Club, including Martletwy YFC. She enjoyed horse riding and her day-to-day life at home in Cresswell Quay. Sally lit up any room she entered with her smile and personality. Since her death it has become apparent how much Sally was loved and cherished. Her sudden absence leaves an unfillable space in the lives so many people that knew and loved her. The Allen family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends.”

Her former school, YG Ysgol Greenhill, said they are “deeply saddened” by the death of a “highly valued and respected member” of the school community. The Tenby school will be open on Monday, July 28, to provide a “supportive space” for those who knew Sally to come together 🕊️

The school said: “This news has come as a profound shock to us all, and our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Allen family and all those who knew and loved Sally during this difficult time. The school will be open on Monday July 28 from 10am-12pm to offer a quiet, supportive space for pupils, friends, and community members to come together. Staff and educational psychologists will be on hand to provide support, and a book of condolence will be available for anyone who wishes to leave a message of remembrance. For those attending, please enter via the main hall doors and proceed to the Year 11 study area. Staff will be available to offer support from 10am. Parking will be available at Tenby VC Primary School, as the school site remains closed for maintenance.”

A special eucharist will be held in Jeffreyston Church in Kilgetty in memory of Sally on Saturday. Parish priest Father Paul Davies said: “Prayers will be offered for the family and members of the community in their grief.”

The A40 at Broadoak was closed after the collision that happened shortly after 8am on Wednesday. The occupants of the other vehicle were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or was travelling along the road at the relevant time and has dash camera footage to contact them, quoting reference 075 of the 23rd. Dyfed-Powys Police can be contacted online, via email ([email protected]), direct message on social media or by calling 101.
