A Cardiff man with previous convictions for indecent images of children has been jailed for six months after sexually assaulting two teenage women by touching their bottoms. 😠
David Llewellyn, 39, of Tyndall Street, Butetown, made sexualised comments towards his victims before assaulting them and whispering in their ears, making them feel uncomfortable and anxious.
Cardiff Crown Court heard on Tuesday that when one victim told Llewellyn she was 19 years old, he responded: “I’ve done much younger than that.”
The first victim described how Llewellyn got “right in her face” and cornered her when she tried to back away. He later “cupped” her bottom and smirked as he told her: “Come on, you love it.”
When the second victim accused him of sexual assault after he touched her bottom, Llewellyn replied: “Yes, I know.”
Llewellyn denied two counts of sexual assault but was found guilty following a trial. He has four previous convictions, including making indecent images in 2018, which resulted in a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that he has breached multiple times.
In a victim personal statement, one victim said she suffered from “sleepless nights” and was “scared to go out at night” following the assault.
Defence barrister Paul Hewitt said his client’s situation was “bleak” and warned he would lose his supported accommodation if imprisoned. The court heard Llewellyn suffers from anxiety and takes prescribed medication.
Judge Carl Harrison said the offences were too serious for anything other than immediate custody, noting that Llewellyn had “minimised” his actions during probation interviews. ⚖️
