A man who sexually assaulted a woman at a bus stop in South Wales, telling her she looked like Beyoncé before propositioning her, has been imprisoned.
Gavin Morris, 36, approached the victim and proceeded to grope her thigh and breast before making the inappropriate celebrity comparison and asking if she wanted to have sex with him.
The incident came to light at Newport Crown Court where Morris was originally given a suspended sentence. However, he was ultimately jailed after breaching the terms following a separate incident at Royal Gwent Hospital on Christmas Day 2024.
The court heard that Morris became disruptive at the hospital after losing his false teeth, having been drinking continuously for nearly a week. He subsequently racially and homophobically abused two custody detention officers after his arrest.
“The defendant would like a custodial term to be imposed today – he wishes to wipe the slate clean as it were, and he’s currently homeless and he believes the prison environment will provide him with some stability which has been lacking over the last few years,” said defence barrister Jac Brown.
Recorder Andrew Hammond sentenced Morris, who has 27 previous convictions for 52 offences, to 11 months in prison. 👨⚖️
