Police officers made an unexpected rescue on Thursday morning after discovering a mother dog and her nine puppies abandoned in Glynneath. The discovery came following concerns raised by local residents.
South Wales Police’s Roads Policing Unit successfully secured all ten dogs with help from their specialist dog handling team.
“Officers from our Roads Policing Unit had a very different kind of ’rounding up’ to do this morning in the Glynneath area. Nine puppies and their mother had been abandoned and following calls from concerned members of the public, officers attended,” stated a South Wales Police spokesman.
“With the assistance of one of our dog handlers all were safely secured. The pooches were handed to dog welfare officers from Neath Port Talbot Council who have taken them to a local animal rescue charity.”
Hope Rescue’s head of operations, Sara Rosser, recently emphasised the importance of seeking help early: “We understand sometimes situations can be desperate, but this is not the way to go about it. It’s not right for the animals and it’s not right for the people helping them. We would urge people to reach out early. While all rescues are under pressure, if we haven’t got room to help those animals we can signpost to other organisations and we can offer advice to prevent it from getting to this point.” 🐾
