Another heartbreaking discovery in Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil, as a young terrier cross was found tied to a tree on Tuesday, December 31. The nine-month-old puppy, later named Sprout, was discovered just a day after three other dogs were found dead in red plastic bags nearby.
Sprout was rushed to veterinary care by Friends of Animals Wales charity, where he tested positive for parvovirus. Despite immediate medical attention, he sadly passed away on New Year’s Eve.
“It’s just so awful and wrong. Sprout was just nine months old and somebody has abandoned him in a poor state and left him to die,” said Eileen Jones, founder of Friends of Animals Wales.
The charity is working alongside the RSPCA to investigate potential links between all four cases. This follows another recent case where they rescued a dog named Tinsel, who required leg amputation due to severe infection. Tinsel is now recovering in foster care.
“While there are absolutely awful people in the world, our volunteers and supporters are heroes. Without the support, we wouldn’t be able to help these poor animals,” Jones added.
Local veterinarians are being notified about the parvovirus case. The charity strongly advises recent puppy owners to ensure full vaccination before outdoor walks.
