A Cwmavon man has been sentenced to 21 months in prison after breaking into a woman’s house, threatening her, and stealing her car. 😡

Swansea Crown Court heard how Samie Jay Ireland, 32, of Heol Camlas, attended the victim’s Margam home whilst intoxicated in February and was asked to leave. The following day, the woman blocked Ireland “on all platforms” and he responded by calling her 103 times, including attempts from someone else’s Facebook account.

On 5th March, Ireland returned and smashed a living room window, climbing through to confront the terrified woman. He told her he was going to “f****** batter” her before sitting down and drinking alcohol.

The victim fled and contacted police, but Ireland drove off in her car. When he returned, he told her he would only give back the keys if she didn’t contact police – but officers had already been called.

During his arrest, Ireland violently resisted, spitting at officers, biting one on the arm, and kicking another in the ribs. He made threats against the officers, saying he knew where they lived and telling one he was going to “snap every bone in his body” whilst threatening to blow up another’s house. 🚔

Ireland, who has 13 previous convictions for 28 offences including harassment of ex-partners and assaulting police, pleaded guilty to burglary, driving whilst disqualified, and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

Judge Paul Thomas KC said Ireland had “paid unwanted attention to a woman who made it clear she did not want anything more than friendship” and noted his pattern of pursuing women he’s attracted to as he “cannot take no for an answer”.

Ireland was also disqualified from driving for 22 and a half months and made subject to a five-year restraining order.
