A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison after he stole a bulldozer and drove it into a pub, causing widespread destruction across multiple vehicles and properties.
Daniel Morgan, of Aberdare, was handed the custodial sentence at Merthyr Crown Court on Thursday, May 14, having pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking and property damage over £5,000, dangerous driving, and criminal damage that recklessly endangers life.
The threats
The court heard that on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Morgan had been drinking at the New Inn Public House before leaving and threatening to return with a bulldozer to attack the premises.
The rampage
Morgan made good on his threat later that evening, travelling to Cefn Farm where he stole a bulldozer by driving it straight through the shed where it was stored. He then took the machine along the main road, striking an Isuzu truck and pushing it over before reaching the New Inn, where he smashed into the front porch on two separate occasions, causing extensive damage to the building.
A member of the public attempted to intervene by blocking the road with a trailer and pickup truck, but Morgan drove the bulldozer directly over both, crushing them.
Brought to a halt
Members of Morgan’s own family ultimately managed to stop him. Using the bucket of a digger, they blocked his path and prevented him from continuing any further. Morgan was then arrested by officers inside the cab of the bulldozer.
Police response
Detective Sergeant Jenna Herbert said: “This was a thoughtless and targeted attack on a pub.
“Morgan has caused substantive damage to both the pub and multiple vehicles, it’s lucky that no one was seriously hurt in this incident. Morgan will now serve time in prison where he can think about his actions.”
