A 49-year-old man has died suddenly at HMP Parc in Bridgend, South Wales Police confirmed on 1 March.

Police have stated there appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and the coroner has been informed. 📋

This latest incident adds to growing concerns as HMP Parc recorded 17 inmate deaths in 2024 – the highest number of any prison in Wales and England. According to G4S, the security company operating the facility, eight of these deaths were attributed to natural causes, while at least four are believed to be drug-related.

The prison has faced scrutiny in recent months, with families of deceased inmates protesting outside the facility in May, demanding answers regarding alleged drug misuse within the prison.

HMP Parc, one of the UK’s largest category B prisons, houses convicted male adult and young offenders, convicted sex offenders, and those awaiting trial for sex offences.

In June, three prisoners required hospitalisation following disorder at the prison, further highlighting ongoing challenges at the facility.

G4S has previously stated it maintains a “zero-tolerance policy towards drugs” at the prison. ⚖️
