Several off-road bikes and an uninsured van were taken off the roads of Blaenau Gwent on Sunday (13 September) as Gwent Police ran a day of targeted patrols under Operation Shock.
Officers from the Blaenau Gwent Neighbourhood Team worked alongside Roads Specialist operations, using intelligence to decide where to put their patrols. One driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a positive roadside test, and a bladed article was recovered.
What was found
Five stop searches were carried out over the course of the day – four during the joint patrols and a further one by the Neighbourhood Team. Cannabis was seized during the operation.
The joint team also dealt with the off-road bikes and the van, both of which were seized, along with the drug-driving arrest and the bladed article.
Neighbourhood Team stops
Separate stops by the Neighbourhood Team led to one driver being reported for having no insurance and another being dealt with for driving otherwise than in accordance with their licence.
An out-of-court resolution was also issued for an incident that had taken place earlier the same day.
What Gwent Police say
The force says Operation Shock is aimed at the problems residents raise most often: illegal off-road bikes, drug driving, uninsured vehicles, weapons, drugs, and anti-social and dangerous behaviour.
In a message to anyone involved in that kind of activity, Gwent Police said: “If you choose to engage in this type of activity, expect to be stopped, searched and dealt with.”
The force added: “Operation Shock is not a one-day operation. We will keep targeting it. We will keep taking action.”
Officers are asking residents to keep passing on information, saying community reports help them place officers where they are needed and take action against those causing harm and disruption.
