A Cardiff man who threatened to “cut up” his neighbour while wielding a Rambo knife has been jailed after being caught on doorbell camera footage.
Oliver Bevan, 23, appeared at Newport Crown Court on Tuesday after attending his next-door neighbour’s home in Llanrumney with two other men on March 23 following an ongoing dispute. 📹
The court heard how Bevan produced the weapon, described as having a serrated edge, from his waist while the victim stood at his front door.
Prosecutor Amelia Pike told the court that police were called and Bevan was arrested. A subsequent search of his home on Letterston Road uncovered cannabis, including a rolled cigarette containing the drug and smaller amounts found throughout the property.
When interviewed, Bevan answered “no comment” to questions but later pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour, and possession of cannabis.
The hearing revealed Bevan has five previous convictions, including a prior offence of possessing an offensive weapon, namely an asp. At the time of the current incident, he was subject to a suspended sentence order.
In mitigation, Emma Harris described her client as “polite and respectful” and said this latest court appearance was a “wake up call” for him. The court also heard that Bevan cares for his father and receives carer’s allowance.
Judge Eugene Egan sentenced Bevan to a total of 90 weeks imprisonment. ⚖️
