A 50-year-old Flintshire man has been sentenced to over four years in prison after committing a “disgusting” sexual assault on a young girl while drunk. 📋
Neal Brown, of Treuddyn, appeared at Mold Crown Court via video link from HMP Berwyn on Tuesday morning after previously admitting to offences of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual assault.
The court heard that in 2024, Brown had been drinking “to excess” when he made inappropriate comments to the girl, asked if she wished to engage in sex acts with him, and sexually touched her.
Prosecutor Brian Treadwell told the court that prior to his arrest, Brown’s attitude when challenged had been “almost nonchalant.”
In her victim impact statement, the girl said: “What he did to me will stay with me forever. It will affect me for a long time to come.”
Judge Simon Mills told Brown: “At the age of 50, you chose to throw away your good character in the most disgraceful and disgusting way. This is classic of situations where men, who have a latent sexual interest in children, have their inhibitions lowered by alcohol.”
The judge added: “The impact has been catastrophic. You’ve affected many, many people’s lives – and the fact you’ve destroyed your own is of limited consequence to me in arriving at the correct sentence in this case. My first regard has to be for the harm you did.”
Brown was sentenced to four years and four months in prison, made subject to the notification provisions as a sex offender indefinitely, and given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to restrict his contact with female children. An indefinite restraining order was also imposed for the protection of the victim. ⚖️
