A severely neglected bull breed dog who was found emaciated and covered in pressure sores has made an extraordinary transformation one year after finding her forever home 🐕💕
Female bull breed Mia was handed into Hope Rescue in Llanharan last year whilst extremely underweight with infected eyes and body sores. Following a successful appeal for information, the RSPCA identified her owner who pleaded guilty to one offence under the Animal Welfare Act for causing unnecessary suffering by failing to adequately investigate and address her weight loss and poor body condition.
He was sentenced to 12 weeks custody suspended for 12 months, ordered to complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and disqualified from keeping all animals for 10 years. He was also ordered to pay £1,200 towards costs. In mitigation, it was heard that he was remorseful.
The examining vet stated that Mia was emaciated with her “hips, spine, and ribs visible.” She was given a body score of one out of nine and “when presented food ate ravenously.” The vet concluded she was in a suffering state and “would have been suffering for a minimum of eight weeks.”
Thanks to veterinary care and rehabilitation, Mia recovered and was happily rehomed. Hope Rescue has now shared extraordinary pictures showing her transformation.
The rescue shared: “One year ago, Mia found her forever home and last week she celebrated her 1st Gotcha Day with plenty of cuddles and even her very own card. Her owner says she is doing really well and enjoys her walks with her pal Derrick, another Hope Rescue alumni. Happy Gotcha Day Mia.”
However, Hope Rescue warned they’re facing a “growing crisis” and appealed for donations via their website. They shared: “While Mia’s story has a happy ending we’re facing a growing crisis. This year alone we’ve seen a sharp rise in cases of cruelty and neglect. We’re in the midst of a real emergency, with more dogs than ever needing our help.”
