Two German Shepherds were rescued after being abandoned in freezing conditions on Bedwas mountain on Wednesday afternoon. The dogs were spotted after a witness saw someone leave them before driving away.

Kind-hearted locals spent over two hours carefully herding the frightened animals to safety. Ryan Dinapoli, 29, who assisted in the rescue, described the challenging conditions: “It was devastating, it really breaks my heart. The field was very steep, it was icy and around -1C. It also started snowing and started getting dark.”

The dogs, now named Lois and Clark, are receiving care at Hope Rescue in Pontyclun. Sara Rosser, head of operations, said: “Despite what was a really distressing ordeal for them, they are really sweet. They are really scared but they are trying desperately hard to make friends with the staff. They are going to be a lovely pair of dogs once they are back to full health.”

The bonded pair – Lois, a four-year-old female, and Clark, a three-year-old male – will likely be rehomed together once they recover. Both dogs are currently underweight with matted fur, indicating long-term neglect.
