A father-of-three who burst into a disabled man’s home wielding a claw hammer and threatened to kill his son has been jailed for 14 months ⚖️

Adam Berry, 28, of Chirk Green, barged into Christopher Davenport’s lounge demanding money he claimed was owed by Mr Davenport’s son David. When told to leave, Berry smashed the front door window, injuring Emma Stocker – David’s partner – in the eye with flying glass.

Mold Crown Court heard how Mr Davenport was watching TV with his wife when Berry appeared in their living room holding the hammer. Berry shouted: “Where is that f*****g son of yours he owes me money. I’m going to kill him.”

After being ordered out, Berry threatened Mr Davenport before smashing windows on the family’s car when told police were being called.

Mr Davenport told the court he was now “scared to go to bed” and worried about his and his wife’s safety. The disabled man, who has difficulty walking, said the damage to his vehicle left him struggling to get around.

Ms Stocker suffered a cut to her eyeball from the flying glass, causing blurred vision and leaving her with a bloodshot eye. She said the incident left her “nervous to walk around on her own” and scared to stay at her partner’s home.

Defence barrister Eve Salter said Berry was genuinely remorseful and that custody had been a “wake-up call”. She described him as a hard-working roofer with three young children and suggested he could be rehabilitated in the community.

However, Judge Rhys Rowlands said Berry had used the hammer to “terrorise the occupants of the house” and continued damaging property after being told police were called.

Judge Rowlands added: “Whatever the truth of the dispute between you and the son of the house, people such as yourself simply cannot be allowed to take the law into their hands and behave in the violent fashion, as you did.”

Berry admitted affray, assault and criminal damage following the incident on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at around 8.15pm. He was also given a five-year restraining order preventing him from going within 100 metres of the victims’ property or contacting any member of the family 🏠
