Gwent Police have released the mugshot of Marlon Green, a 33-year-old Newport man who has been jailed for repeatedly targeting his elderly father.
Green was sentenced to 10 months in prison this week after he hurled a brick through his 68-year-old dad’s living room window late at night on Saturday, August 30, narrowly missing him.
The incident saw Green turn up at his father’s Newport home in breach of a restraining order. When refused entry, he threw the brick and climbed through the shattered glass.
Prosecutor Rob Simkins told the court: “The front window was completely smashed and the defendant entered the address through the shattered window. He was shouting and swearing and his father ran away from the property through the front door and contacted the police.”
Police had to draw their Tasers and deploy PAVA spray before Green was handcuffed.
This wasn’t Green’s first offence against his father. He was given a two-year restraining order last November after throwing a refrigerator at his dad’s window, and was jailed for 12 weeks in April after breaching it by turning up at 3.30am and warning: “You will die!”
The defendant, of Old Mill Court, Bettws, has 20 previous convictions for 39 offences, including a five-year sentence in 2012 for wounding with intent.
Barrister Gareth Williams said: “The defendant has a problem with alcoholism and when he’s at a low ebb, he will try and reach out. He had the good sense to plead guilty in the magistrates’ court. He is someone who suffers with his mental health. The defendant is sorry for the damage he caused to his father’s house. He knows he’s facing a custodial sentence today.”
Judge Richard Kember jailed Green for 10 months and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge upon release.
