A drug dealer whose phones contained more than 23,000 messages linked to the supply of class A substances has been sentenced to four and a half years behind bars.

Joshua Jones, 27, of Rymney, in Cardiff, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court having pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and diamorphine between February 13, 2025, and January 28, 2026.

Phone evidence

The scale of Jones’s involvement was laid bare through the contents of his phones. Prosecuting barrister Sol Harley told the court that police had obtained information connecting Jones to two separate ‘drug lines’, and that he was identified as the owner of both.

One device contained 700 messages described as ‘typical’ of those associated with class A drug supply, while the second phone held an additional 23,000 messages of a similar nature.

The arrest

Jones was detained while attending a probation appointment. A phone and £225 in cash were seized at the time of his arrest.

He gave a ‘no comment’ interview when questioned by officers at the police station.

The court was told that Jones had built up a £10,000 debt which he had needed to repay.

Mitigation

Defence barrister Abhi Mohindru said his client was “realistic” and aware of the implications of his offending.

Sentencing

Judge Lucy Crowther sentenced Jones to 54 months in prison.
