Billie Jo Kane, 27, of Llanbedrgoch, Anglesey, was jailed for 30 months at Caernarfon Crown Court today after admitting to the October 2023 burglary of a home belonging to a woman in her 80s.

The court heard that among the stolen items was an irreplaceable photograph of the victim’s late husband and late son.

Following the burglary, farmer Ieuan Parry, 28, of Llanbabo, Anglesey – Kane’s ex-partner – buried the Toyota car used in the crime. Police were tipped off about the vehicle being moved using a tractor.

Parry, who was not the second burglar, received a 16-month suspended sentence with rehabilitation after admitting to assisting an offender.

Richard Brigden, defending Kane, told the court she had a history of abusive relationships and mental health struggles. “She’s both remorseful and it seems deeply shamed by her actions,” he added.

Dafydd Roberts, representing Parry, said his client’s attempt to thwart the police investigation had been out of “misguided loyalty” to Kane.

Judge Nicola Jones told Kane: “I accept you have diagnosed chronic mental disorders which are to some extent at the root of your offending.” But she added that “most dreadfully” irreplaceable personal items were stolen.

“I accept you were under the thrall of your partner at the time, that you were frightened of him. You suffered significant trauma throughout your life,” the judge concluded.
