A Barry man with a £200-a-week cocaine habit has been jailed for 20 months after leaving his girlfriend “terrified 24/7” during a campaign of domestic abuse.

Jordan Isaacs, 30, was branded a “bully” by Judge Eugene Egan at Newport Crown Court after he strangled and assaulted the woman in her own home whilst their children were present.

The court heard how Isaacs called his victim 150 times from a withheld number and left 27 voicemails – some containing threats – after being released on bail with conditions not to contact her.

Last October, Isaacs came home “drunk” and shut a door on the woman, causing injuries to her left arm and foot before placing his hands around her neck and strangling her. He taunted her by telling her she was a “s*** mum” whilst their children were in the house.

His offending continued for more than a month when he made abusive calls and left beer bottles on her doorstep.

In an emotional victim impact statement delivered to the court, she said: “He left me with so much anxiety that I couldn’t sleep much. I thought, this is my life now. I was terrified 24/7. He’s left me with so much self-hatred.”

Isaacs pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and stalking. He has a previous domestic violence conviction against the same victim.

Judge Egan told the court: “He was spending £200 a week on cocaine. That’s staggering. He’s a family man. He was making £2,500 a month and spending around a quarter of it on a class A drug. That’s shocking.”

The judge told Isaacs he had “bullied and humiliated” his former partner.

Defence barrister Tom Roberts said in mitigation: “He has taken significant steps towards addressing his offending. He said he needs to sort himself out.”

Isaacs, now of Fields Park Road, Pontcanna, Cardiff, was also made the subject of a 10-year restraining order.
