A Bridgend resident has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years after his dog was discovered in a severely emaciated state.
Jordan John Davies pleaded guilty at Swansea Magistrates’ Court to causing unnecessary suffering to his female bull breed dog, now known as Mia.
The dog was brought to Hope Rescue in Llanharan as a stray, showing signs of severe malnourishment and pressure sores. The centre subsequently alerted the RSPCA after identifying Davies as a potential owner.
RSPCA deputy chief inspector Gemma Black described Mia’s condition: “The dog was alert, but quiet and cuddled up in a bed within the reception area. She was extremely thin, with all bones clearly visible. Her hips, ribs, spine could easily be seen and felt.”
Veterinary examination revealed Mia scored just one out of nine on the body condition scale, with the vet determining she had suffered for at least eight weeks.
Davies received a 12-week suspended sentence and must complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He was also ordered to pay £1,200 in costs.
The court heard that Davies expressed remorse for his actions.
There is a happy ending for Mia, who has made a complete recovery under the care of Hope Rescue. DCI Black shared: “It has been wonderful to see how with some TLC, appropriate diet and veterinary care Mia has completely transformed. I am delighted she has found her forever home.” 🏠
