Two prolific shoplifters from Merthyr Tydfil are now behind bars after a crackdown on retail crime by the town’s Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Shannon Wilce, 29, was handed 18 weeks in prison at Merthyr Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 12, 2026, after carrying out multiple thefts from shops across Merthyr Tydfil.
Just two weeks later, 30-year-old Daniel Giles faced the same court on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, where he received a nine-month sentence for a string of high-value shoplifting offences in the area.
The successful prosecutions demonstrate how South Wales Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Team is working alongside local partners through the Clear Hold Build strategy to tackle theft and protect businesses in Merthyr Tydfil.
Both offenders will now serve time behind bars for their repeated targeting of retailers in the town.
