An 18-year-old who was already serving a sentence for a series of earlier offences has been handed a further seven months in custody for carrying a samurai sword through a Caerphilly county borough street.
Tyler Parker, who has no fixed address, admitted possessing a bladed article in a public place when he appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court.
The offence
Parker was carrying the blade on Hafod-y-Mynydd in Rhymney on Wednesday, August 26, the court was told.
Previous offending
At the time he was already the subject of a detention and training order, imposed for stealing a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, escaping from lawful custody and burglary with intent.
Sentencing
Magistrates sent Parker to a young offender institution for seven months. He must also pay £85 towards prosecution costs.
