A 39-year-old man has been jailed for 34 weeks after embarking on a nine-stop shoplifting spree across Newport and Cwmbran.
Nathan Mulligan, of no fixed abode, targeted supermarkets and stores over a seven-week period, stealing hundreds of pounds worth of goods including detergent, meat, coffee and household products.
Newport Magistrates’ Court heard Mulligan pleaded guilty to nine counts of theft:
- Detergent worth £160 from Morrisons in Newport (27 August)
- Detergent valued at £112.60 from Tesco Express in Cwmbran (2 September)
- Steaks worth £130 from Aldi in Newport (5 September)
- Goods valued at £69.75 from B&M in Newport (10 September)
- Washing pods worth £112 from Sainsbury’s in Newport (12 September)
- Lamb priced at £100 from Farmfoods in Newport (17 September)
- Coffee and chocolate to the value of £52 from Co-op in Newport (22 September)
- Washing up products worth £31 from Co-op in Newport (23 September)
- Washing up products and coffee valued at £86.75 from Spar in Newport (4 October)
The total value of goods stolen amounted to more than £850.
Mulligan was ordered to pay compensation to his victims following his release from prison.
