A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to imprisonment after failing to comply with court-ordered restrictions and absconding from his registered address.
Rhys Jones was initially convicted in Cardiff Crown Court in 2022 for making indecent images of children, receiving a community order alongside a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and monitoring requirements.
After breaching these orders, Jones received an 18-month suspended sentence in February 2023, including unpaid work and rehabilitation programmes. However, he subsequently disappeared from his accommodation at the Three Saint Hotel, Llantrisant, between 27th September and 2nd October.
The probation service expressed concerns about the risk he posed to children and family members, deeming the suspended sentence “no longer workable.”
Defence solicitor Sol Hartley told the court his client “regrets his actions” but described Jones’s circumstances as “chaotic.”
Judge Paul Hobson, addressing Jones, stated: “The court gave you a chance… You were given another chance.” He imposed a 10-month prison sentence, though Jones is expected to be released soon due to time served on remand.
