A prolific thief has been jailed after stealing goods worth more than £1,000 during a shoplifting spree across Gwent. 🛒
Nathan Mulligan, 38, of no fixed abode in Newport, was sentenced to 48 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to 12 counts of theft from various retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, B&Q, Sports Direct, WH Smith, Co-op and Aldi.
Newport Magistrates’ Court heard that Mulligan stole items such as meat, laundry products and clothes from supermarkets and shops in Cwmbran, Pontypool and Newport to sell on to fund his drug habit.
The offences, committed between February 6 and March 18, came shortly after Mulligan had been released from custody having been jailed for similar offences on December 5 last year.
His theft spree included:
- Meat worth £192 from Tesco in Pontypool
- Laundry products valued at £72 from Tesco in Pontypool
- Goods worth £19.50 from WH Smith in Cwmbran
- Cleaning products valued at £25 from Co-op in Griffithstown
- Laundry products worth £19.60 from One Stop in Griffithstown
- Items valued at £189 from B&Q in Cwmbran
- Meat worth £270 from Sainsbury’s in Cwmbran
- Household products and sweets worth £135.25 from One Stop Shop in Pontnewydd
- Clothes valued at £38 from Sports Direct in Cwmbran
- Beef joints of unknown value from Aldi in Pontypool
- Laundry products worth £88 from Tesco in Pontypool
- Meat and coffee valued at £75 from Aldi in Newport
In addition to the jail sentence, Mulligan was ordered to pay compensation to his victims. 💰
Gwent Police had launched an appeal earlier this month to locate Mulligan after he was wanted for breaching his licence conditions following his release from prison.
