Alec Sylvester Jones, 47, of no fixed abode, appeared via video link at Mold Crown Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to two burglaries and one attempted burglary.
The court heard that on December 9, a Flint resident woke at 6:30am to find Jones by his front door. After a brief chase and struggle, Jones fled with stolen items including a bottle of Malibu and food.
Later that same day, Jones was captured on Ring doorbell footage attempting to enter another Flint property, but was unsuccessful as the door was locked.
The following day, December 10, Jones targeted a family home in Bagillt where he took purses from the living room and a phone from the kitchen after entering through a patio door.
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing told the court that Jones has 23 previous convictions for 59 offences, with 44 related to theft and similar crimes.
Defence counsel Dafydd Roberts stated: “Clearly it has to be imprisonment – nothing else can be passed today.” He explained that Jones had been doing well for five months before the offences but experienced problems with his medication, resulting in deteriorating mental health.
Judge Timothy Petts delivered a stern message to Jones, saying: “You have a terrible record, with 25 convictions for burgling houses, and you don’t seem willing or able to stop. Burglary is a nasty crime. It has an impact on people – they understandably don’t feel same at home anymore. Overall these are nasty offences from a prolific burglar.”
