A Swansea man has been jailed for two years after being caught dealing cocaine and cannabis when police identified a car which intelligence had linked to drug supply.
Benjamin Davies, 36, of Glanmor Road, Uplands, was arrested at the Burrows service station after officers followed his red Ford Focus, which matched the description of a vehicle linked to drug dealing.
When questioned, Davies told officers he was “just off to Neath to place a bet with a bookmaker for a friend.” However, after seizing his phone, police discovered messages relating to drug deals.
Swansea Crown Court heard Davies would repackage and sell drugs on behalf of others higher up the supply chain, receiving cocaine as payment. His barrister, Jon Tarrant, revealed that both Davies and his partner were cocaine addicts, stating: “most of their income from benefits goes on that addiction.”
Recorder Paul Lewis KC told the court: “In any drug-dealing operation there were chiefs and Indians and both were necessary for it to operate.”
Davies pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis. He will serve up to 12 months in custody before being released on licence.
