A former South Wales Police employee has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison after leaking confidential information to her drug dealer boyfriend.

Lucy Langmead, 44, from Pontypridd, was handed a two years and 11 months sentence at Cardiff Crown Court today, whilst her partner Daniel Cozens, 37, received one year and eight months. 📰⚖️

The court heard how Langmead, who worked for South Wales Police, began her relationship with Cozens in 2020. Between May 2021 and February 2022, she illegally accessed the police computer system to pass on confidential information about his associates to help his drug dealing activities.

The Anti-Corruption Unit investigation also revealed that between May 2020 and March 2022, Langmead unlawfully accessed the system to obtain information about family members and associates.

Both defendants pleaded guilty to their charges. Langmead admitted to 13 offences of securing unauthorised access to computer material, five offences of unlawful disclosure of personal data, and conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office.

Cozens pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class C controlled drugs (Benzodiazepines and Pregabalins) and possession of class B cannabis.

Langmead resigned from South Wales Police in May 2022.

Chief Superintendent Bella Rees, head of Professional Standards, said: “Police officers and staff have access to personal and private information and it is both a public expectation and a legal requirement that information should be treated in the strictest confidence, properly protected and used for legitimate policing purposes only. Accessing confidential police information without a legitimate policing purpose is an abuse of position and, as this case demonstrates, will be treated robustly.”
