A drug dealer who was running a drugs line from his Cardiff home offered a dissatisfied customer a freebie after they complained about the quality of cocaine he had sold them.
Cameron Cummings was arrested after police raided his property in Stafford Road, Grangetown, on January 2 and discovered a significant stash of drugs along with items linked to dealing.
The raid
Officers searching the 28-year-old’s home recovered 30g of cocaine valued at more than £1,000, over 1kg of cannabis worth in excess of £5,000, and £3,635 in cash. They also found drug paraphernalia including cannabis cuttings, scales, snap bags, multiple mobile phones, and an extendable baton classed as an offensive weapon.
Phone messages
Analysis of the phones revealed Cummings had been operating a drugs line. One exchange showed a customer complaining about the cocaine he had bought, describing it as “bashed” – slang for being adulterated. Cummings admitted in the exchange that he used creatine to cut the drugs, but the buyer said the cocaine was “burning”. In response, Cummings offered a “free fat one” next time.
Other messages referred to drug quantities using slang terms including a “T-shirt” and a “leg”. Cummings also appeared to be directing others in his operation, with one message reading: “Hop on thing and do a few bits.” Reference was also made to the use of confidential apps to avoid detection by the authorities.
Defence and sentencing
When interviewed by police, Cummings claimed he bought drugs in bulk because he and his family were heavy users. Prosecutor Sol Hartley said: “The prosecution say that was farcical.”
Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard on Wednesday that Cummings had no previous convictions. His barrister Elin Morgan told the court her client had built up a drug debt which led him to turn to dealing. She added that he has a young child whom he saw daily before being remanded into custody.
Cummings pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon. Recorder David Harris sentenced him to a total of 36 months in prison.
