A man who stole from businesses across Newport over a two-and-a-half week period has been sent to prison for seven months.
Sam Mulligan, 36, of no fixed address, admitted nine counts of theft from a shop when he appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 9 September.
The offences
The thefts took place at commercial premises in the city between Sunday 16 August and Thursday 3 September. Gwent Police say Mulligan was on licence at the time, having previously been handed a suspended sentence.
Operation Krypton
His arrest was made under Operation Krypton, an intelligence-led partnership scheme aimed at cutting crime and anti-social behaviour across Newport.
Superintendent Esyr Jones, Neighbourhood Policing for Gwent, said: “Theft is not a victimless crime and we know this outcome will be welcomed by businesses and retailers impacted by Mulligan’s prolific offending.
“Our recent court outcomes also include the imprisonment of both Mohammed Salam and Nicole Clarke for burglary and theft offences committed in the city centre.
“These outcomes, along with more than 240 arrests since July, show that our ongoing partnership work in Operation Krypton is delivering.”
