🏠 A Newport father and his two sons have been sentenced for defrauding homeowners through their building company, Trade Price Paving Limited, leaving victims thousands of pounds out of pocket.

Ronald Connors, 49, and sons Jeremiah, 25, and Simon, 28, targeted eight homeowners between 2018 and 2020, performing substandard work or abandoning projects entirely.

One victim shared: “When I met him and his brother, they were very charismatic and funny. There were even times when we laughed at jokes together. I often wonder if they were laughing at me. They completely hoodwinked me. They must have thought I was an idiot.”

The scam cost her £10,000 of inherited money, with an additional £15,000 needed for repairs.

Another victim revealed the dangers of their work: “Anyone near that wall at the time would have been crushed. It could have killed someone. All they were interested in was my money.”

The family, from Rembrandt Way, St Julians, pleaded guilty to fraud and unfair trading regulations offences. Ronald Connors received a 2.5-year prison sentence, while his sons received suspended sentences with community service requirements.

Judge Carl Harrison stated: “What mattered to you was greed.” 💷

A proceeds of crime hearing is scheduled for later this year.
